At Wickerly, we want to address our environmental impact from the outset. Rather than treating sustainability as an afterthought as we grow, we intend to make responsible practices a core part of how we source, package, deliver and operate our business.
We intend to do this by:
Prioritising UK-based suppliers where possible
Being selective about our suppliers, prioritising businesses that can demonstrate credible commitments to sustainable and responsible practices.
Choosing products with recyclable packaging and avoiding unnecessary single-use plastics wherever possible.
Using recyclable cardboard boxes and recyclable paper tape for our outer packaging, alongside biodegradable packing peanuts where protective packaging is required.
Reducing the environmental impact of our own packaging by producing our boxes without plastic lamination and using non-toxic inks, helping to ensure they can be more easily recycled.
We are currently exploring a basket return scheme across Scotland. We are investigating partnerships with an established business with sites across Scotland that could act as convenient return points for customers. Customers would be able to scan a QR code inside their basket, select their nearest participating return point and return the basket there. We would then arrange for baskets to be collected and redistributed for reuse. This would allow us to move towards a more circular model, extending the life of our baskets and reducing the need for new baskets to be produced for every order.
